What Refined Space itself collects#

Nothing.

There are no first-party cookies, no local storage, no analytics scripts, no tag managers, no social widgets, no accounts, no newsletter, no embedded video and no web fonts loaded from another domain. There is no server-side application behind these pages: they are static files, generated in advance and served as they are.

You can verify that from your browser's network tab and its cookie inspector, which is a better assurance than a paragraph on a privacy page.

The calculators#

The calculators run entirely in your browser as JavaScript. The dimensions you type are used to compute a result on your device and are then discarded when you leave the page. They are never transmitted, logged or stored, and there is no server-side component that could receive them. That applies to every one of them, from the rug size calculator to the bathroom layout checker.

The one network request a page makes on your behalf is for the site's own search index, and only if you use search.

Advertising#

Refined Space carries display advertising. The advertising is served by third parties, which means that when an ad loads, your browser makes a request to their servers rather than to ours, and they receive the ordinary information any web request carries: the page you are on, your IP address, your user agent, and whatever identifiers they have previously set.

Those third parties, including Google and its advertising partners, may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, to limit how often you see the same one, and in some regions to personalise what you see. We do not receive that data, we cannot read those cookies, and we do not pass anything to them about you: they collect what they collect directly.

• You can turn off personalised advertising for Google at My Ad Center, and for many other vendors at Your Online Choices or the DAA WebChoices tool.
• Browser settings can block third-party cookies entirely, and content blockers can stop the requests being made at all. Neither breaks this site: every page is fully readable without them, and so is every calculator.

Where consent is required by law, a consent notice is shown before personalised advertising cookies are set, and your choice is recorded so you are not asked again on every page. Declining does not remove advertising, it removes the personalisation of it.

We do not sell anything, we have no affiliate links, and we do not accept payment for coverage or placement. Advertisers have no influence over what any page says, which is set out in the editorial standards.

Server logs#

The web server that delivers these pages processes requests in the ordinary way in order to serve them. Standard request data (the requested URL, the time, and the information your browser sends with every request such as its user agent and IP address) is handled transiently by the hosting infrastructure as a technical necessity of delivering a web page. It is not used to build a profile of you, is not combined with anything else, and is not sold.

Email#

If you write to the editorial desk, we hold that message in order to reply to it. We do not add you to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list. Ask for the correspondence to be deleted and it will be.

Children#

The site is a technical reference about the dimensions of rooms and furniture. It is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Your rights#

Refined Space holds no personal data about you, so there is nothing here to access, rectify, export or erase, with the single exception of any email you have sent us. Requests relating to data held by advertising vendors have to go to those vendors, and the links above are the routes to them.

Changes#

If what this page describes changes, the page is updated before the change goes live, and the update is noted in the corrections log.
